The Heart Shape

The shape of heart symbol is based on the shape of the human heart although without all the additional plumbing of arteries and veins surrounding he heart. That would be far to gory to give someone on a Valentines day card.. So, the heart we will learn to draw is far more appealing to look at than the human heart.

One of my fondest memories about hearts is the cartoon heart of the Grinch in Dr.. Suess' "The Grinch who stole Christmas." In the story, the Grinch steals all the Christmas presents and decorations from the Who's in Whooville hoping to ruin their Christmas. The Grinch has a very tiny heart but when he hears the joyful singing of the who's in whoville his heart grows 3 sizes bigger. It grows so big in fact that he is filed with joy and returns all the presents and decorations to the who's.
